It is very important to face the ever-growing challenges and competition on a global scale through sustaining and highlighting the necessity of qualified manpower. As a result of the vast growing expansion of tourism and increase in the number of hotels, resorts and cruises the labor market supply for employment skills are not satisfactory.
The ETF has launched a National Skill Standards Program (NSSP) through the joint commitment of the government, the tourism industry and donors from local and foreign financial institutions.
The program has three main phases: The first involves a review of existing Egyptian Standards and a revision of these standards in the context of best international practice. The second phase includes the development of new training programs and curriculum materials, based on the revised skill standards. The Final phase sees the development and up-grading of Vocational Training Centers, to deliver new training programs and to manage the assessment and certification process. It also includes the training of trainers and assessors, the development of certification procedures and the introduction of effective quality assurance arrangement. In addition, the Federation exerts all possible contacts to convince its members of the necessity of developing their training program, to raise the skill standards of their work force for the sake of their future and profitability.
The following two objectives are set to meet the management and owning company requirements for increasing productivity and providing quality service:
- Improving current skills
- Develop standard operation manuals for the improvement of educational and training activities. The manuals will include front office, housekeeping, food and beverage services, fast food services, food production and stewarding.
In this context, the ETF is in the process of establishing a Training Plan based on the required operation manuals to improve current employee skills, especially department heads and supervisors in 4, 3 and 2-star hotels and the catering industry. |
